AltProteins 25

Australia’s premier conference on alternative proteins, AltProteins 25, has released its program for the event, which will be taking place in Sydney for the first time, on 14 October. Organiser, Food Frontier, says it is embracing a “provocative new format”.

In its fourth year, AltProteins 25 looks set to tackle the challenges and transformative opportunities that could reshape the global food system.

The theme, From Ideas to Impact, encompasses “threads of disruption, leadership and transformation, designed to spur participants to rethink assumptions, embrace complexity, and lead with purpose”.

The new format of deep dive discussions, breakout workshops, immersive tastings, and real-time engagement with leading experts will explore topics from climate disruption to bioeconomic innovation.

Food Frontier interim chair, David Bucca, said the team had worked to evolve the conference to reflect the “rapidly changing landscape of emerging proteins”.

“This year’s program introduces some particularly impactful changes designed to empower attendees to rethink assumptions and be a part of shaping the sector’s next chapter,” Bucca said.

Headline speaker, former BBC World News presenter and founder of the Thinking the Unthinkable project, Nik Gowing, will share his work exploring how leaders and organisations can more effectively respond to disruption and complexity in an era of accelerating change.

Other key speakers include:

  • Cecilia Chang (USA), Chief Business Officer at Mission Barns, a pioneer in cultivated meat innovation;
  • Amy Carter-James (AU), impact entrepreneur and CEO of Raaise, redefining how future-fit ventures are funded;
  • James Petrie (AUS), Co-founder and CEO of Nourish Ingredients, leading next-gen fat innovation; and
  • Sonalie Figueiras (HK), food futurist and founder of Green Queen, Asia’s leading impact media platform and a powerful voice on the future of sustainable food systems.

Speakers will present in a circular theatre-style and there will be a new “tasting hall” featuring 40+ products to sample.

AltProteins 25 is proudly supported by the NSW Government through Investment NSW, which will lead an interactive workshop on export opportunities.
