Coles has launched its annual fundraising event for FightMND, the Australian charity dedicated to finding a cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND), with sales of its Big Freeze Beanies and a portion of profits from selected Coles, Peters, Mondelēz, and Asahi products going to the charity until 17 June.
This is the eighth year Coles has been involved with the fundraiser, and the 11th year it has been running. Big Freeze 10 was one of the largest yet, involving a limited-time collaboration between Brewmanity Beer and Coles Liquor to raise money for FightMND.
Coles customers have helped raise more than $40 million for vital MND research and care initiatives, contributing to advancements including:
- The development of 5 drugs and 15 clinical trials
- 14 projects developing biomarkers that can accurately diagnose and predict MND
- $1 million to help people living with MND access assistive equipment, including eye gaze machines for communicating and wheelchairs and hoists to support day-to-day activities.
Limited-edition Big Freeze 11 Beanies are available for $25 at Coles supermarkets and online across Australia, with all proceeds going to FightMND. Kids-sized Big Freeze 11 Beanies, Big Freeze Socks and Big Freeze caps will also be available in selected Coles supermarkets, with 100 per cent of merchandise sales going to FightMND.
Other initiatives for 2025 include:
- Coles will donate 10 cents to FightMND for every Coles fresh Aussie pork product sold in-store or online.
- Coles and Peters Ice Cream will donate 10 per cent (5 per cent each) from the sale of Peters Icy Pole Lemonade Ice Block, Original Twin Pole, Frosty Fruit, and Lifesaver Ice Block 8-pack range sold at Coles supermarkets and online to a maximum donation limit of $150,000.
- Coles and Mondelēz will donate $1.00 (50 cents each) to FightMND for each specially-marked Cadbury Large Block, Milk Chocolate 360g to a total donation amount of $500,000
- Asahi Lifestyle Beverages will donate 11 cents from the sale of each Solo, Pepsi and Pepsi Max 1.25L varieties, and Gatorade Blue Bolt 600ml.
Coles chief commercial & sustainability officer, Anna Croft, said customers and team members are incredibly proud of and love getting behind the annual fundraising campaign for FightMND.
“Over the next few weeks, many of our team members will recreate the Big Freeze in their own small ways in Coles stores across Australia, as well as support local community fundraisers for FightMND,” said Croft.
“We’re incredibly grateful to have the continued support of Aussie pork farmers, Australian Pork Limited and Mondelez in our fight against MND. We’d also like to thank Peters Ice Cream and Asahi Beverages who will be donating a portion of sales from selected products sold at Coles to the Big Freeze 11 campaign. Together, we can bring hope to those affected by MND and move closer to finding a cure.”
Customers can also make a donation of their choice to FightMND at the checkout in any Coles supermarket from 7 May to 17 June or at any Liquorland, First Choice Liquor Market and Vintage Cellars stores from 14 May to 10 June.
