Ten Australian and New Zealand companies have been internationally recognised with 13 awards across seven categories, including food and beverage, in the prestigious WorldStar Packaging Awards 2021.

The WorldStar Packaging Awards are run by the World Packaging Organisation This year, Australia and New Zealand combined  received the fourth highest number of awards in the world behind Japan, China and USA. There were 194 winners overall selected from 345 entries.

The ANZ winners are winners from the annual Packaging Innovation & Design (PIDA) Awards program, presented by the Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP), which is the exclusive feeder program for the two countries into the WorldStar Packaging Awards.

The categories where ANZ designs were recognised include Food, Beverage, Labelling & Decoration, Health & Personal Care, Household, Packaging Materials & Components and Transit. Planet Protector Packaging was the top achivever in the region, recognised across three categories – Food, Packaging Materials & Components and Transit. The WorldStar Special Awards, for which there are a number of ANZ entries, will not be announced until the 2021 virtual WorldStar Awards ceremony in May.

Commenting on the calibre of the entries, WPO president Pierre Pienaar said, “The submissions were, again, of a significantly high standard, and it was notable how well the entries in general reflected the focus of packaging with sustainability in mind. I particularly was impressed with the number of submissions from countries that have in the past not partaken in any significant way."

Consolidation at the top, restructuring in the middle, and bold innovation at the edges have reshaped the industry’s horizons. At the same time, regulators, brand owners and recyclers have inched closer to a new circular operating model, even as policy clarity remains elusive.

Pact has reported a decline in revenue and earnings for the first five months of FY26, citing subdued market demand, as chair Raphael Geminder pursues settlement of the long-running TIC earn-out dispute.
