Food giant Kellogg says it aims to phase out artificial colours and flavours in its cereals and snack bars by the end of 2018.
The global company says it has been working to remove artificial colours and flavours across its Kellogg's branded cereals and a variety of Kellogg's branded snack bars, and its goal is to complete the transition by the end of 2018.
Kellogg joins a growing number of food manufacturers in eliminating artificial ingredients including General Mills, which in June announced plans to have 90 percent of its cereals free of artificial flavours and colours by 2016, up from about 60 percent today.
The commitment applies to all Kellogg markets, according to Kellogg Australia.
“We know that consumers are looking for foods with simpler ingredients, and we’re answering that call,” Kellogg Australia’s senior nutrition & regulatory affairs manager, Dr Michelle Celander, said.
“All Kellogg products in Australia are already free from artificial colours, and we’re always working on ways to make positive improvements to our foods. A great example of that is Froot Loops, which since 2011 contains only natural colours and flavours.”
