Goat milk formula is on the rise, with sales believed to be almost four times greater than organic formula at the retail pharmacy level.

Annual pharmacy sales of goat’s milk formula are now ~$85m, according to Australian health and nutrition solutions company Nuchev, which said the segment had grown by $82m in four years.

"Annual pharmacy sales of organic formula are ~$22m and in recent decline," Nuchev marketing manager Rhys Denny said.

"Goat now dwarfs organic, having increased to ~$85m and nearly four times the size of the organic formula segment ($22m) which has recently declined."

Denny said the growth of goat’s milk can be attributed to its unique natural physical properties, which can make it easier to digest.

It is also claimed to be less likely to cause an intolerance or allergy.

"There are also high levels of nucleotides, prebiotic oligos, and many essential vitamins and minerals like calcium, magnesium, vitamin A and vitamin C in goat’s milk," he said.

The increased awareness of goat’s milk is not isolated to Australia, with many countries seeing a rise in the use of goat in a range of products, especially in Asia where goat’s milk is more established.
