Four experts have spilled the beans on what’s next for the industry ahead of the Drinks Collective Show which takes place in September in Melbourne.
The four category ambassadors, who are helping to curate the Drinks Collective Show, have shared their industry predictions ahead of the event, which targets Australia’s $16b on-premise liquor industry.
David Messum from Just The Drop says consumers are increasingly concerned about recycling, and sustainability has become a hot topic among winemakers. He is predicting a change in wine packaging - from wine on tap to larger bottles.
Kirrily Waldhorn from Beer Diva predicts new beer styles and techniques are on the way, from Brut IPAs (which taste a little like champagne but with hop characteristics), to a resurgence in easy and approachable craft lagers.
Nigel Weisbaum from Archie Rose says that Scottish whisky is always made from one strain of barley, but Australian whiskies are made from two to three strains, and he predicts that the influx of smaller distilleries will result in more freedom and creative innovation, as can be seen by the recent launch of Archie Rose Six Malt New Make, made from six malts.
Mitch Wilson from Maison Ferrand predicts the range and variety of drinks available for bars to choose from and sell will continue to grow.
As well as showcasing the latest drink offerings, the Drinks Collective Show will also provide three days of free educational sessions and masterclasses.
The Drinks Collective Show will take place from 10 – 12 September at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.
