Cereals such as corn flakes and muesli are the most popular breakfast choices for Australians, while Weetbix follows closely in the list of preferences.

This is the finding of researcher Roy Morgan Research, which also found that despite their surging popularity, only 10 per cent of Australians who say they do not have time for breakfast turn to ‘breakfast drinks’ such as ‘Up & Go’.

Instead, many Australians were consuming breakfast drinks such as protein or energy drinks at non-breakfast times to boost their energy and provide nutrients, it found.

The breakfast survey also revealed that while breakfast is important to some, there are still many who aren't eating 'the most important meal of the day'.

According to the researcher, 4.5 million Australians 14 years and older say they “seldom have time for breakfast”.

Approximately 13 per cent of this busy population also find time for a bowl of porridge at least once a week.
