Woolworths has had its Hot Cross Bun range in stores since 26 December, but has some new, limited-edition drops arriving this month – including mudcake and Caramello inspired options.

The new Mudcake flavour and the new limited-edition Woolworths Hot Cross Buns inspired by Caramello will join returning favourites, including the POY award-winning Cinnabon Hot Cross Bun, first launched in February last year.

Woolworths bakery merchandise manager, Donald Keith, said the Hot Cross Bun season is all about fun and innovation, and the team enjoys bringing exciting, limited-edition flavours to customers each year.

“With proven fan favourites like Cinnabon and Caramelised Biscuit back on the shelves, we knew we had to add another iconic flavour to the mix,” said Keith.

“The Mudcake Hot Cross Buns are a rich, chocolatey treat that are the perfect example of taking a customer favourite and turning it into a seasonal smash. While we love the trending flavours, we are also proud that our award-winning Traditional Fruit Buns remain the most popular pick throughout the season, alongside our Gluten Free and Fruit Free range, ensuring we genuinely have something delicious for every single customer.”

Packaging News

The World Packaging Organisation has named 234 winners for the WorldStar Packaging Awards 2026, which were selected from 481 entries submitted across 36 countries.

ACOR is calling on the Government to urgently introduce packaging reforms or risk the collapse of Australia’s plastic recycling sector and face millions of tonnes of plastic waste polluting the environment.

As 2025 draws to a close, it is clear the packaging sector has undergone one of its most consequential years in over a decade. Consolidation at the top, restructuring in the middle, and bold innovation at the edges have reshaped the industry’s horizons. At the same time, regulators, brand owners and recyclers have inched closer to a new circular operating model, even as policy clarity remains elusive.
