Lion has launched a 'limited edition' James Squire ale in time for the festive season.

The Hop Father Celebration Ale is a nod to James Squire himself, who successfully grew the first Australian hop plants that many beers have been based on.

Described by the company as a hoppy pale ale, the James Squire Hop Father has a full-bodied character brought to life with Aussie malts, with an initial sweetness off the palate that gives way to a cleansing bitterness due to the use of Simcoe hops.

It offers pineneedle, fruity aromas with earthy and spicy notes, according to the brewer.

In 2014, James Squire picked up three awards at the Australian Liquor Industry Awards for James Squire One Fifty Lashes Pale Ale, after being named winner in the Premium Domestic and Craft categories in 2013.
