Premium chai latte pre-mix maker, Bondi Chai, has been named the NSW Micro Business of The Year 2014 in the Telstra Australian Business Awards.

Bondi Chai, which began in 2005, continues to grow at 15 to 30 per cent every year and it now has national and international annual sales of $2 million.

Martin Buggy and Melissa Edyvean founded Bondi Chai. Buggy said: “We created a product that we believed would be an award-winner and it hasn’t let us down, but to have the business model that we built around it recognised at such a high level is an unexpected delight.”

The Bondi Chai Latte pre-mix is aimed at café owners and chai drinkers and allows them to replicate India’s ‘national drink’ – chai masala. The product – a powdered mix specifically developed to be blended with milk is the only one of its kind on the Australian market.

As the NSW Micro Business of The year, Bondi Chai is an automatic finalist in the National Telstra Business Awards with the winners to be announced in Melbourne on 7 August.
