Leading producer of abalone, mussels, and oysters, Yumbah Aquaculture, has become the first oyster producer in Australia to earn Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification – a globally recognised gold standard for sustainable and responsible seafood production.

The process involved a rigorous, independent assessment of Yumbah’s operations – from water quality and stock care to traceability and ethical labour practices. The company’s oyster farms at Boomer Bay, Eaglehawk Neck and St Helens have all been certified through this process.

Dedicated to innovation, responsible farming, and environmental conservation, Yumbah stated achieving BAP certification signals a new benchmark for oyster farming in Australia. It delivers third-party validation for customers, partners, and stakeholders, reinforcing confidence in the quality and sustainability of every oyster grown.

Yumbah CEO, David Wood, said the certification reinforces the company’s commitment to environmental and social responsibility across all areas of its operations.

“Becoming the first oyster producer in the country to achieve BAP certification is a proud moment for Yumbah,” said Wood.

“It reflects the work of our staff who keep the business at the forefront of responsible seafood, delivering premium Australian oysters to the world. It’s a great way to show the standards we work towards every day, producing oysters responsibly and sustainably.”

The company stated the milestone reinforces Yumbah’s leadership in sustainable aquaculture and reflects the work of its staff, who continue to keep the business at the forefront of responsible seafood, delivering premium Australian oysters to the world.
