Woolworths and Uber Eats have joined forces to provide same hour grocery delivery from a select group of Metro stores. Customers will be offered a curated range of around 1200 products.

Sydney and Melbourne Uber Eats account holders will see 12 Woolworths Metro locations on the app, providing access to fruit, vegetables and hundreds of household staples within 60 minutes.

Woolworths Metro general manager Justin Nolan said they were always trying to make the shopping experience easier, and this partnership accelerated the process.

“It will be an ideal option for those smaller top up or last-minute shopping needs and complement our existing ecommerce offer.

“It will also help us meet the needs of customers seeking to limit their community outings during the pandemic,” said Nolan.

In the quarter to 4 April, Woolworths reported an 90.5 per cent annual ecommerce sales growth, with online now accounting for around eight per cent of total sales.

Customers can place orders at a virtual Woolworths store through the Uber Eats app. The order is packed by personal shoppers at Woolworths and then passed to Uber Eats for delivery.

Uber Eats regional general manager retail ANZ Lucas Groeneveld said the demand for home-delivery has increased during COVID-19. “This demand is only set to continue as customers increasingly look for faster delivery as the new normal.

“By linking up with Woolworths, Uber Eats is well positioned to usher in a new era of ease for Australian households – strengthening our platform’s appeal as the place to head to go anywhere or get anything,” said Groeneveld.

The partnership begins in September.
