Gluten-free premix maker Melinda's Gluten-Free Goodies has moved into the fructose-friendly space with a new range of products that cater for the growing incidence of fructose malabsorption.

The products, which are also gluten-free, include two new premixes, Raspberry Coconut Cupcakes and Blueberry Lemon Cupcakes, and three of Melinda's most popular gluten-free premix products, Choc Fudge Brownie, Red Velvet cake and Gingerbread Loaf.

Fructose is a sugar that is found naturally in many foods and is normally absorbed in the small bowel. In fructose malabsorption, this process is impaired and can cause bloating, pain and other stomach problems.

Melinda Trembath, owner and operator of Melinda's, said the company had developed the new range following many requests from consumers about fructose-friendly products.

“Adding fructose friendly products really expands what we can offer our customers,” said Trembath, who is a qualified nutritionist and coeliac.

Freezer stable for up to six months, the fructose-friendly range of Melinda's premixes can be prepared as slab cakes for events or as individual cupcakes for a special treat. The fructose-friendly range can also be prepared egg and dairy free.

“The Raspberry Coconut cupcakes are a wholesome blend of our signature flour, coconut, dried and crushed real raspberries and are sweetened naturally with glucose and stevia. For a decadent addition, you may choose to add some fresh raspberries.

“The Blueberry Lemon cupcakes are a light blend of our signature flour, dried and crushed real blueberries and lemons, and sweetened naturally with glucose and stevia. Prepare with milk, butter and eggs (or substitutes) and add some fresh blueberries for an extra flavour hit,” Trembath said.

Melinda's fructose friendly range will be available from September 2013, from online stores, and selected health and IGA stores.

The Raspberry Coconut Cupcakes will also be available in Coles supermarkets from September 2013.

In addition, the Lemon Blueberry Cupcakes and Natural Crackers will be available from the Coles Trial Store in Burwood East, Victoria for twelve weeks from September, aiming for a national roll-out in early 2014.
