GSB Lubrication Services has become the first Australian company of its kind to receive the HACCP tick of approval for onsite lubrication and maintenance services for the food industry.

GSB is the only Australian company offering HACCP-certified onsite lubrication services, and to achieve this accreditation, the company’s entire business operations were thoroughly assessed, says Barny Kyriacou, GSBs business development manager.

Key processes that were reviewed included GSB’s implemented lubrication schedules, its company policies and procedures, including staff induction and training systems, as well as the reasoning behind its product choices, and usage instructions for customers.

“They basically looked at all of our business operations, but we think that’s important if we are going to be offering this service,” Kyriacou says.

According to Kyriacou, GSB received very positive feedback from the certifier, who was impressed with the company’s level of understanding of safe food manufacturing requirements, as well as the complexity of the lubrication services it provides.

“We have developed some pretty sophisticated systems and we run a very organised lube shop. It’s well laid out and clearly labelled, and we’ve also developed our own food and non-food grade colour coding system.”

“Site managers often underestimate the importance of correct lubrication of plant equipment with the right type of food grade products to ensure food safety, reliability and uptime,” Kyriacou says.
