Japanese Kit Kat is the first consumer brand in the world to launch a product based on Barry Callebaut's newly developed Ruby chocolate.

Nestle's launch of Kit Kat Sublime Ruby comes five months after the announcement by chocolate and cocoa products maker Barry Callebaut that it had developed a fourth type of chocolate ‘Ruby’ next to Dark, Milk and White chocolate.

Ruby chocolate has a fresh berry-fruity taste and characteristic colour, and no colours are flavours are used.

The product was launched ahead of Valentine’s Day in Kit Kat Chocolatory stores in Japan and South Korea, as well as online.

Sublime Ruby was created by prominent pâtissier Yasumasa Takagi, the owner-chef of Le Pâtissier Takagi, which operates four shops in Tokyo.

“I am very pleased that our innovative breakthrough Ruby chocolate has come to life so quickly through our partnership with Nestle and the pioneering Kit Kat brand in Japan,” Barry Callebaut CEO Antoine de Saint-Affrique said.

“Nestle was very quick in spotting the trend and in introducing a Ruby chocolate version of Kit Kat, which will entice consumers across Asia and beyond.”
