General Mills Australia says it is working with suppliers, partners and customers to maintain local and global supply chain networks so it can meet the demand of consumers pantry-stocking as a response to COVID-19.

General Mills Australia supply chain director Michele Canepa said the health and safety of staff and the broader community was top priority, while it was imperative to provide steady and reliable food supply during this time.

“Our supply chain will continue to work tirelessly to ensure our brands remain well-stocked in supermarkets,” said Canepa.

“We thank our customers for their collaborative approach and support with understanding consumer demand and are extremely grateful to our factories, logistics partners and suppliers for truly stepping up.

“The responsiveness to this unprecedented spike in demand has been outstanding from everyone in the supply chain.”

General Mills Australia employees are working from home, where possible, while its Rooty Hill plant, which makes its Latina Fresh pasta and Old El Paso Mexican products, “continues to operate following strict guidelines,” Canepa said.

On a global scale, General Mills, through its foundation, will donate US$5 million in charitable gifts for vulnerable children to ensure access to meals amid school and community program closures.

General Mills ranked #59 in the Australia’s Top 100 Food & Drink Companies 2019 report.
