Bellamy’s Organic is set to ship 166,000 tins of organic baby formula to the US, joining 20 other companies from around the world helping ease the country's shortages. The brand will add to the small number of organic products on offer.

Bellamy’s Organic  be permitted by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to sell its products in the US market.

The company joins Bubs Australia and Care A2+, while the a2 Milk Company and Australian Dairy Nutritionals are also hopeful for FDA approval

Bellamy’s will initially be sold through Amazon, with an extended list of retailers to follow in the coming months, the company said.

Bellamy’s Organic general manager marketing and innovation, Kara Cooley, said that the company’s organic dual certification, combined with its compliance to the Australian Food Standards Code, contributed to the FDA granting it permission to assist with the global effort.

“Bellamy’s Organic started just over 20 years ago in Tasmania. It’s great to think that we can now join some of the globe’s biggest baby milk formula producers in responding to this crisis.

“We pride ourselves on the integrity and quality of our dual Australian-certified organic products, and are delighted that we can provide some relief to American parents and carers at this challenging time,” Cooley said.

Bellamy’s Organic Infant Formula Step 1 (0-6 months,) and Bellamy’s Organic Follow-On Formula Step 2 (6-12 months) will be the first products available to US customers.

The products are Australian-made and Australian certified organic, with dual certification from National Association for Sustainable Agriculture Australia (NASSA) and Australian Organic Certification (AOC).

The company said it is waiting for further guidance from the FDA on potential US distribution beyond November.
