Australia is the first market to sample a new Asahi mid-strength beer which has just been launched by the Japanese beverage giant's local division, Asahi Premium Beverages.

Asahi Soukai (pronounced Souk-eye) is a low carbohydrate 3.5% ABV beer and it will be available in Australia from October.

According to its maker, Asahi Soukai (which means refreshing in Japanese) delivers a clean, smooth taste that embodies the sophisticated, Japanese way of life, whiles still retaining the refreshing, crisp Asahi Super Dry taste.

“Born of the Asahi Super Dry beer, Asahi Soukai is an easy-to-drink, non-filling, sociable beer, expertly brewed lager using the same unique, quality Japanese brewing techniques,”the company says.

Asahi Soukai uses hops from Australia and the US, and was twelve months in the making, according to Asahi Premium Beverages, and it expects the beer to appeal to young professionals.

Asahi has also acquired Melbourne-based brewer Mountain Goat, its second acquisition in the Australian boutique beer space in recent years. Ashai bought the Cricketers Arms brand two years ago.
