Global ingredients producer, Arla Foods Ingredients, is expanding into the Australian performance nutrition market through a partnership with distribution company, Alchemy Agencies.

The distribution agreement will primarily focus on Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), and covers five key brands in Arla Foods Ingredients’ range of premium performance nutrition ingredients.

According to Euromonitor, the ANZ region has the second highest per capita global spend on sports nutrition products, including bars, drinks and powder shakes, and Australia is the world’s third largest sports nutrition market.

These include:

  • Lacprodan whey protein isolate – contains at least 90 per cent protein and offers solutions for ready-to-drink sports beverages, gels, powder shakes and protein bars
  • Capolac – a milk mineral concentrate rich in highly bioavailable calcium, magnesium and phosphorus, with benefits for muscle function, healthy bones and body composition
  • MicelPure – a micellar casein isolate containing 86% native protein and naturally high in calcium for sports nutrition RTD beverages and shakes
  • Nutrilac PB-8420 – a high-quality whey and milk protein ingredient that ensures soft texture, processability and robustness for the outer mass of sports protein bars
  • Nutrilac MFGM – which is rich in high-quality whey protein and the complex lipids present in milk fat globule membrane to support physical performance and strength
Arla Foods Ingredients has launched a high-protein concept for gamers who want to level up their nutrition. Titled ‘Programer’, the ready-to-drink solution is designed to meet the needs of e-sports enthusiasts seeking benefits for their health as well as their gaming performance.
Arla Foods Ingredients launched high protein RTD, Pro Gamer, in April 2024.

Lacprodan was the key ingredient in Pro Gamer, a high-protein ready-to-drink solution launched by Arla Foods last year, aimed at e-sports enthusiasts. Lacprodan IF-3070 also secured approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to use its whey protein hydrolysates in infant formula in July 2024.

Arla Foods Ingredients head of Asia, Alexander Leufgen, said the company is delighted to welcome Alchemy Agencies as its distribution partner.

“The new agreement for ANZ/Oceania is an excellent fit for our performance nutrition solutions in this dynamic market. Crucially, it will play a key role in supporting our ambitions in Asia and ensuring our focus on customer centricity and service.”

Established in 1996, Alchemy is a distributor of food ingredients and specialty chemicals in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. The company previously partnered with Western Australian plant protein ingredients, Wide Open Agriculture, to distribute its Buntine Protein throughout the region.

Alchemy Agencies director, Tristan Molloy, said the company is excited to bring its expertise in gaining sales and creating strong brand value to Arla Foods Ingredients’ performance nutrition ingredients in the region.

“The new agreement aligns with our expansion plans for our partner and supplier network and strengthens our involvement in the fast-growing sports nutrition market across our key regions,” said Molloy.

As 2025 draws to a close, it is clear the packaging sector has undergone one of its most consequential years in over a decade. Consolidation at the top, restructuring in the middle, and bold innovation at the edges have reshaped the industry’s horizons. At the same time, regulators, brand owners and recyclers have inched closer to a new circular operating model, even as policy clarity remains elusive.
