Woolworths, in partnership with AI tech company Tiliter, is making it easier for customers to budget and plan their shop with upgraded food and vegetable scales providing a new level of convenience.

The technology is available in Woolworths Scan&Go stores and shows the exact price of loose fruit and vegetables, as well as the weight of the items.

The option will first be available for customers at Woolworths Crows Nest and Double Bay, along with Metro Park Sydney and Norwest.

Woolworths have already been using AI scales throughout the fresh produce department since the middle of 2022.

The new scales replaced the existing analogue scales to provide a modern, digital alternative for customers, with over 300 Woolworths stores currently having the scales in-store.

Tiliter, whose product recognition solutions can be found in supermarkets across Australia, New Zealand and Europe, developed the new AI scales.

Woolworths first formed a partnership with Tiliter during the roll-out of its Scan&Go program in 2020.

Woolworths’ head of business solutions - customer, retail and emerging concepts, Sailesh Shankar, said customer and team member feedback would be listened to closely during the project.

“We understand customers are looking to work within their budgets, and hoping this solution can make it easier for them to do so,” said Shankar.

Tiliter CEO, Marcel Herz, said, “We're excited to continue our nationwide partnership with Woolworths and evolve our digital AI Scales to provide a more convenient shopping experience for their customers.

“Australian shoppers now have the opportunity to track their spend across fresh produce while they shop, making it easier for them to cross-reference the price with their budget,” said Herz.
