Archie Rose Distilling Co. is partnering with the Sydney Opera House to create two new Australian single malt whiskies – Contemporary and Classical – inspired by Opera House performances.

Whisky and music lovers are able to nominate their favourite Opera House music events, which Archie Rose’s Sensory Team will use to influence the limited-edition Contemporary and Classical Single Malt whiskies.

Launching in November, the Opera House-inspired whiskies aim to showcase the harmony between whisky and music, demonstrating the complex flavours of Archie Rose.

Archie Rose Distilling Co Founder, Will Edwards, said that it was an incredible honour to partner with the Sydney Opera House to create these whiskies – ten years since the company first began producing spirits in Sydney.

“It’s literally a dream come true! The team has really enjoyed conceiving a classical and contemporary Australian single malt whisky style in response to the incredible performances we’ve enjoyed under the Opera House sails,” said Edwards.

“We can’t wait to see whisky lovers have the same extraordinary experience when we launch them later this year.”

The Classical Single Malt Whisky draws inspiration from symphonic, chamber, opera and choral music that first inspired the creation of the Opera House and continues year-round today. Crafted from locally grown Australian malt, it will honour the clarity and precision of classical-styled Scottish and Japanese whiskies.

In contrast, the Contemporary Single Malt Whisky embodies the vibrant spirit of modern music performances while representing the innovative approach Archie Rose implements in their whisky-making process. Featuring locally sourced rare and specialty malts, this whisky will showcase Australian provenance and ingenuity, reflecting the dynamic contemporary music talent that has enthralled Opera House audiences for years.

Archie Rose master distiller, Dave Withers, said that it was a pleasure and a privilege for the production team to consider how the Sydney Opera House’s greatest classical and contemporary music performances could inspire whisky expressions.

“The result is two very distinct whisky styles, both of which are testament to Australia’s malt quality. We’re really looking forward to seeing which style people prefer, and to hearing how enjoying the whiskies while listening to music enhances their experience,” said Withers.

Consumers can participate by choosing their favourite Opera House music performance here for a chance to win the two new limited edition Archie Rose x Sydney Opera House Single Malt Whiskies – with the competition closing 14 August.
