A partnership between Yarra Valley’s craft beer brewing company Public Brewing Co. and Maku beverage has seen their signature, award-winning Hemp Session Ale – Maku – gain national distribution through Dan Murphy’s.

Honouring classic American pale ales, Maku fuses Australian grown hemp with hops to produce a familiar tasting beer with a twist. Exhibiting fresh citrus and tropical notes alongside clean, nutty malt, Maku is a balanced brew.

Public Brewing Co. owner Phil Munday said he was excited more Australians would be able to experience Maku thanks to national distribution.

“We like to take risks, push the boundaries and experiment when it comes to our craft beers – that’s what sets us apart.

“Maku is a refreshingly complex yet understated. It showcases the versatility of hemp and the skilful hand of our brewery team. It has been created for both craft beer lovers and those wanting to get out of their comfort zone and try something different,” Munday said.

“Having national distribution in all Dan Murphy’s stores allows Maku to be enjoyed by more Australians thanks to the accessibility of our new retail partner.”

Maku beverage co-founder Adam Guskich said the use of hemp in Maku created a nice synergy with Public Brewing Co.’s sustainability efforts.

“Inspired by its namesake – Maku, the ancient Asian goddess of hemp – hemp (Cannabis Sativa) has been utilised throughout history for food, fibre and medicine, and applauded for its versatility and environmental sustainability,” he said.

“With sustainability being a key priority at Public Brewing Co. – including MW solar installation, battery and water recycling – Maku combines an incredible beer with a social conscience.”

Previously an AIBA silver award winner, Maku is delivered in a sleek and sophisticated all-black can and can be enjoyed on its own, or perfectly paired with your favourite meal.

In addition, Public Brewing Co.’s fan favourites – 100 Acres Pale Ale, Red Falcon American Red Ale and Feather Weight Craft Light – will be stocked for the first time in Dan Murphy’s and BWS in select stores.
