Woolworths foray into The Simpsons-inspired Duff Beer that began in May has ended after a ruling from the advertising standards body.

The beer, which sells through Woolies alcohol outlets, was being marketed as alcohol to viewers of The Simpsons: namely children and young adults, according to a complaint made by the Alcohol Policy Coalition and upheld by the Alcohol Beverages Advertising Code.

The US-brewed beer, which was officially licensed by 20th Century Fox, was launched in May.

A spokesperson from Woolworths' Liquor Group reportedly said the company respected the decision and would discontinue the stock.
