Australian food manufacturers undertaking plant upgrades must avoid building a “new old facility” if they want to succeed into the future, according to Steve Christie, process engineering director at Wiley.

Christie says only those companies that future-proof their facility design will survive and thrive in the current economic climate.

“Innovative design techniques are currently driving the global economy towards more streamlined, efficient and sustainable manufacturing processes,” he says.

Christie will be tackling this make-or-break issue, by focusing on some of the latest design innovation and integration options available to help food facility operators and owners improve their businesses at the inaugural Food & Drink Business Live: Industry of the Future Forum 2014, which will be held on Monday, 11 August at Sydney's Royal Randwick Racecourse.

This Food & Drink Business initiative will bring together market leaders, independent experts and key stakeholders from across Australia’s food and beverage processing sector to dissect the challenges and opportunities currently facing local processors, and to propose real world solutions to help companies embrace change and thrive.

The event will include presentations from successful manufacturers including David Beak, managing director of one of Australia's largest suppliers of fresh ready meals and soups, Beak & Johnston, and Richard Glenn, general manager of Nudie, the fastest growing premium juice brand and the largest Australian-owned juice company.

Former food industry exec and Oliver Wight Asia Pacific partner, Stuart Harman, will also discuss the five key pitfalls of private label contracts and how to avoid them. More speakers are to be announced.
