It’s export awards season as Western Australia joins Queensland and New South Wales in announcing its call for entries into the Western Australian Export Awards 2023.
The West Australian awards are celebrating 35 years this year by continuing to recognise the local exporters that contributed $250 billion to the state’s economy in 2021-22.
State Development, Jobs and Trade minister Roger Cook said the awards create the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate exporters in the state.
“The McGowan government is committed to growing our export sector, to diversify the economy and create jobs.
“The awards help to raise the profile of the State’s industry sectors, export capabilities, and inspire other businesses to expand into international markets,” Cook said.
Exporters are encouraged to apply for one or more of the 13 categories:
- Advanced Technologies;
- Agribusiness, Food and Beverages;
- Creative Industries;
- e-Commerce;
- Emerging Exporter;
- International Education and Training;
- International Health;
- Manufacturing and Advanced Materials;
- Minerals, Energy and Related Services;
- Professional Services;
- Regional Exporter;
- Small Business; or
- Sustainability and Green Economy.
A gala dinner will be held in October to announce the winners, including the WA Exporter of the Year, and to celebrate the 35th year of the awards. All state winners will progress to compete in the Australian Export Awards in Canberra in November.
In 2022, Hancock Agriculture’s 2GR Wagyu won at a state level and went on to be joint winner of the Australian Export Awards Agribusiness, Food and Beverages category. In FY22, its exports grew 336 per cent and accounted for 61 per cent of total sales, with 50 per cent of those sales generated in new markets.
