Warrnambool-based meat company Midfield Group is diversifying into dairy products with the establishment of a new processing plant.

Midfield Group is a major Australian exporter of meat. This will be the company’s first foray into dairy processing.

The company has contracted equipment supplier SPX Corporation to help it establish a new dryer plant to enable it to export milk powders.

According to SPX, the facility will have the capacity to produce both whole and skim milk powder and will also include an anhydrous milk fat (AMF) processing line.

The completed facility will feature an array of SPX equipment including a new preheating process to provide longer run times, enhanced evaporation technology and will use SPX’s “Triple-A” dryer enabling production of high quality milk powders.

"We look forward to working closely with Midfield Group to establish a state-of-the-art milk powder processing plant to help them grow their global business,” Marc Michael, president of SPX Flow Food and Beverage, said.

Work on the project will commence in the first quarter of 2015 with the new plant to begin operating in mid-2016.
