Close to 120 manufacturing jobs will be created in Victoria’s Yarra Valley as the result of a partnership between UK snack food company Tyrrells and the Victorian Government.

Tyrrells will invest in Australian manufacturer Yarra Valley Snack Foods (YVSF), requiring tens of millions more potatoes each year from local producers.

Victoria is Australia’s largest exporter of food and fibre products, with exports worth $12 billion in 2014-15 and more than 190,000 Victorians employed in the sector.

Food and fibre is a growth sector the government is supporting through the Future Industries Fund, which provides grants of up to $1 million for Victorian-based projects aligned with these sectors.

In August 2015, Tyrrells announced its acquisition of YVSF and has since taken steps to build an Australian home base at the YVSF’s existing location in the Yarra Valley.

Australia is Tyrrells' second largest international market after France.

The Yarra Valley factory is Tyrrells’ first manufacturing location outside of the UK, and it will provide a base to develop further opportunities throughout Asia.

Tyrrells currently manufactures a range of potato crisps and gourmet Popcorn, called Poshcorn.
