English premium potato chip brand, Tyrrells has acquired Yarra Valley Snack Foods to accelerate its growth in the Australian snack industry.

Tyrrells made its first appearance in Australia last year when it launched its rustic potato chip range into Coles supermarkets, but this is its first foray into manufacturing here.

Yarra Valley Snack Foods is a fast growing premium snacks business based in Lilydale, Victoria that manufacturers the Thomas Chipman Organic Chips range and other natural, organic and gluten free products.

Tyrrells sells its range in over 37 countries worldwide, and global sales accounts for around a quarter of its turnover.

Tyrrells CEO David Milner says its hand-cooked crisps, which are made on a farm in the Herefordshire countryside, have been well received in Australia, which is already the company's second largest international market after France.

Milner said: “From working with family farms through to sourcing the best tasting, natural ingredients, we’re delighted to be expanding in a market famous for it’s food manufacturing credentials”.

Andrew Blain, Managing Director of Yarra Valley Snack Foods said: “The alignment between Tyrrells Potato Crisps and Yarra Valley Snack Foods is positive news for the food manufacturing industry in Australia.

"Moreover, it represents a strong vote of confidence in the innovative work already being done by Yarra Valley Snack Foods.”
