A new beer - the Showstopper Pale - is being brewed exclusively for the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

The Showstopper Pale is brewed by Modus Operandi which is based at Mona Vale on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. It uses all NSW-sourced ingredients, including hops from Ryefield Hops at Bemboka, NSW and malted barley from growers in western NSW.

The beer was unveiled yesterday by Primary Industries Minister Niall Blair at Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park.

Another Sydney beach-side beer maker, 4 Pines Brewing Company, is the toast of Manly ferry commuters.

After being awarded a contract by Harbour City Ferries, its cans are being sold via a bar service that is now in operation on the slow ferry between Circular Quay.

The Manly-based brewer was recently bought by global beer giant Anheuser-Busch InBev.

The awards were held midway through the sector's biggest ever exhibition, APPEX, which along with a dazzling array of technology, has shown how purpose, focused minds, and collaboration, can enable packaging and processing to rise to the challenges it faces.

After serving 22 years on the APPMA Board, and 14 years as chairman, Mark Dingley told the 700-plus guests at the APPMA Gala Dinner last night that he will be stepping down from his position as chairman.
