Table of Plenty, Nexba, and private label brands by Aldi were among those to clean up at the annual Product of the Year Awards.

A number of private label brands from Coles were also celebrated in the awards night this week.

The 45 winning products were voted by more than 14,000 consumers in a survey conducted by research company Nielsen.

Nielsen reviewed household products against criteria such as trial performance, value for money, and overall satisfaction.

As was the case in 2016, retailer ALDI was the biggest winner, this year claiming the prize in 16 categories.

Product of the Year director Sarah Connelly said this year’s entries showed the emergence of a number of smaller, Australian-owned companies entering the awards such as Nexba, Birch & Waite, Table of Plenty, and Conga Foods.

“It’s encouraging to see some of the smaller companies taking risks and delivering great innovation into the Australian market” she said.

Nexba’s range of Naturally Sugar Free soft drinks won in the competitive beverage category, while Table of Plenty won in the Gluten Free category for its mini rice cakes in three flavours.

Birch & Waite took out the prize in the Sauces category for its Free Range Rich Tartare Seafood Sauce (above), and Conga Foods was the Cooking category winner with its Val Verde Passata 500g pack.

Larger companies such as PepsiCo were also successful. PepsiCo was recognised in the Savoury Snacks category for the Red Rock Deli’s Sweet Potato Crisps range, while Goodman Fielder was a winner for the White Wings Cake in a Cup.

McCain Foods was recognised for the Sara Lee Incredibly Crunchy Cheesecakes range in the Frozen (Sweet) category.
