A car sporting a giant Chiko Roll will take part in a fundraising race across Australia – for the 30th year running.
The 1964 Wolseley 24/80, owned by Bathurst local John Lindsell, has long been a feature of the Variety Brydens Lawyers B to B Bash.
The Variety Bash has run for more than 30 years with hundreds of Bashers, like John, travelling the length and breadth of the country making donations to regional kids to help them get more opportunities in life.
A local factory, which is owned by Simplot Australia, has for years manufactured the Chiko Roll, and has also sponsored Lindsell since his first Variety Bash in 1989.
“We started in 1989, and then did another five, 10, 20, and now 30. It’s crept up on me” Lindsell says.
“When you see your fundraising efforts going towards wheelchairs, mobility equipment, scholarships and learning aids for disadvantaged kids, and on the Variety Bash, donations of equipment to tiny schools along the route, you really feel like you’re making a difference to Aussie kids. If we didn’t do this, they wouldn’t get any of that.”
The 2018 Variety Bash will start at Bonnyrigg on Sunday 12 August and visit Bathurst, West Wyalong, Ivanhoe, Broken Hill, White Cliffs, Tibooburra, Merty Merty, Leigh Creek, William Creek, Coober Pedy, Oodnadatta, Marla, Mulga Park, Yulara, Uluru, Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), Mutitjulu and Curtin Springs before finishing up at Braitling in Alice Springs on 21 August.
