The Palaszczuk Government has officially opened a $10 million manufacturing hub in Rockhampton as part of the state’s $30 million investment. It is one of three manufacturing sites set to be delivered by the Queensland Government.

Located at Central Queensland University’s North Rockhampton campus, the Rockhampton Manufacturing Hub aims to further strengthen the region’s key manufacturing areas of rail, metal production and food innovation.

Minister for Manufacturing Cameron Dick said the site has delivered on a 2017 election promise and has been operational since April 2019.

“Manufacturing in Central Queensland is already thriving, employing more than 5,000 people,” Dick said.

“The Rockhampton Manufacturing Hub will further strengthen the sector, as a centre of expertise for advanced manufacturing innovation and skills, which in turn will private sector investment and create more jobs in the region.

“Local manufacturers will gain access to business development programs, skills and training and equipment through the Central Queensland University campus.”

CQUniversity senior deputy vice-chancellor Alastair Dawson said the hub would be closely linked to the university and its facilities, including the Centre for Railway Engineering.

“Co-locating the hub on CQUniversity’s Rockhampton North campus will give local manufacturers direct access to our world-class facilities,” Dawson said.
