Red Bull Australia has returned to profit growth after four years of contraction in the hotly contested energy drinks market.

Red Bull is the world-leading energy drink brand but in Australia is second in the market behind Frucor's V brand. The third biggest brand is Monster Energy drinks which are sold by Coca-Cola Amatil in Australia, according to a Fairfax Media report.

Last year the company reported its third annual profit fall in a row - its $7.18 million net profit after tax for the year to December 31, 2014 was three per cent lower than the previous year.

This year, however, Red Bull Australia saw a 58 per cent rise in net profit after tax to $11.4 million to December 2015, and its revenues climbed by 9 per cent to $217 million, with further rises forecast for the current year.
