East 9th Brewing has launched Australia's first brew that uses hemp as an ingredient following its legalisation earlier this month.
The new brew, Doss Blockos Hempire Hemp Ale is only being sold on tap, and the certified organic ground hemp seeds are used after fermentation to provide a “unique nuttiness and soft creaminess” to the flavour.
The brew was introduced to the on-premise market this week following the legalisation of the consumption of hemp seed in Australia after decades of prohibition.
“The skeleton of Doss Blockos Hempire is a delicious and refreshing session ale,” its maker East 9th Brewing said.
“It's deliberately low in bitterness to highlight the unique hemp characteristics and uses Sorachi Ace hops which are the perfect match for the more savory hemp notes.
“Its approachability sessionability and intrigue will attract a wide range of customers and consumers looking to experience this unique flavour for the first time.”
The product is also an “up yours to the nanny state, and cheers to the liberation”, according to East 9th Brewing, which is an independent Melbourne brewer that has in the past launched a limited edition activist cider range The People Vs.
The range bore label slogans like ‘Shut Up Govt. Of Course It’s A Yes to Gay Marriage’, ‘I’d Swap Pauline For A Refugee’, 'WTF Nanny State, Everything I Wanna Do is Illegal’ and ‘Legalise the Green: Hempire Strikes Back’.
