Industry stakeholders are doing their bit to fight food insecurity as awareness of hunger in Australia grows.

Victorian pork producers will donate hundreds of kilograms of high-quality pork to not-for-profit organisation FareShare in an effort to feed Victorians doing it tough.

As part of the new initiative, Victorian pig farmers will donate approximately 250kg of pork to FareShare, which it will incorporate into approximately 2000 meals per week for struggling Victorians.

Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) pig group president Tim Kingma said while the present oversupply of pork was negatively impacting on Victorian pig farmers, many felt compelled to assist those in less fortunate circumstances by redirecting some of their excess pork to those who need it.

In another food insecurity initiative, Parmalat has teamed up with Foodbank on a campaign to encourage more consumers to get the word out about hunger in Australia.

With actress Jodi Anasta at the helm at the campaign, which features dairy brand Pauls, Australians will be encouraged to share their breakfast moments on social media with the hashtag #BreakfastWithPauls.

For every image shared using the hashtag, Pauls will donate one dollar to Foodbank, and funds raised will be used to help Foodbank distribute meals across the country.

Pauls has been working with Foodbank for 18 years, providing everyday essentials such as milk.

Supermarket chain Woolworths is also collaborating with Foodbank by offering shoppers the chance to donate to those in need via tokens at the checkout.

Consumers are asked to buy a $2 Foodbank token at any Woolworths supermarket or fuel site until 24 July, and the donation will equate to four hearty meals for someone in need.
