A pizza outlet will challenge the record for the world’s largest dessert pizza this Sunday on the Gold Coast.

Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar will attempt to take the title from the current Guinness World Record holder, Italy.

Taking place at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre’s forecourt from 10am, the event will involve 20 staff members for 12 hours of preparation, four hours of cooking, and a period where they will serve the pizza to the public.

Crust general manager Renee North said the team had been in training for months to deliver the pizza.

“We’ve custom-made 50 pizza trays for the attempt, as well as a 50-metre gravity conveyor so that we're able to move the pizza through the oven,” she said.

“The pizza is predicted to weigh 120kg and will measure 50 metres in length.”

North said the dessert pizza recipe had been specially crafted for the attempt using natural ingredients.

“We've created a new flavour by combining ingredients from two of our most popular house-cooked desserts: the Black Forest Crumble and our Hot Sticky Cinnamon Buns.

“Once complete and measured, we will have around 2000 slices of pizza up for grabs for anyone who comes down to the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre between 3pm and 4pm.”

Food rescue charity OzHarvest will be on hand to collect any leftover pizza, donating the slices to local charities who feed the community’s hungry.

The current record of 14.28 square metres is held by the Record Pizza Men team from Italy.
