Wine Australia and Australian Grape & Wine have announced progress regarding its One Sector Plan, a strategic industry response to major changes and challenges within the sector over the past few years.
In September 2022 the boards of Australian Grape & Wine and Wine Australia collectively identified a need to lead the process of developing the One Sector Plan – to be informed by the sector, for the sector, saying ‘the perfect storm of issues’ the industry had encountered since 2020 was unprecedented.
The strategic response reflects the significant scale of these issues and their impact on growers, producers and exporters.
The One Sector Plan follows Wine Australia's Strategic Plan 2020-25, which was developed and delivered in collaboration with Australian Grape & Wine’s 30-year Vision 2050 report. The Strategic Plan 2020-25 detailed a five-year investment plan, including $200m in R&D, marketing, regulation and adoption.
The One Sector plan will aim to ensure strong alignment, collaboration and innovation to tackle the challenges and opportunities the industry faces, both collectively and effectively.
Wine Australia and Australian Grape & Wine will work with individuals, companies and State and Regional Associations to develop the One Sector Plan that will outline what needs to be prioritised until 2030 to address real change.
Wine Australia and Australian Grape & Wine says the One Sector Plan will:
- Clearly outline the key challenges and opportunities;
- provide strategic direction across the sector and how to get there;
- describe clear objectives, accountabilities, and timelines;
- recognise the key differences and points of collaboration;
- be adaptable to the sector's needs and operating environment, and
- provide clear alignment on the overall strategic intent but allowing autonomy at a local/regional level.
Wine Australia and Australian Grape & Wine however do acknowledge that the One Sector Plan will not be able to address the full breadth and diversity of local or regional interests, but will provide overall strategic direction and an umbrella plan for alignment with state and region plans, and will not include a revised set of aspirational growth targets – these will remain in Vision 2050, and will not be a list of actions which do not align to strategic intent or problems being addressed.
Wine Australia and Australian Grape & Wine have met with State and Regional Associations to discuss how best to engage with the community, and are working on local workshops to discuss the issues and priorities that are critical.
