A number of NSW food and beverage companies headed to Hong Kong last month to exhibit their wares in the first trade pavilion from NSW at the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Food Expo.

The HKTDC Food Expo is the city’s signature event for trade buyers and public visitors to source a wide variety of quality food and beverage products from all over the world.

The event aims to provide a doorway to a vast array of potential new consumers across Asia. Nine NSW food companies exhibited their products at the international event, which ran from 14-18 August at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

This year’s expo featured more than 1100 exhibitors from over 20 countries and regions. It historically attracts more than 19,000 trade buyers and more than 460,000 public visitors attended which was an increase of 12 per cent on last year.

Bonnie Shek, director of HKTDC Australia and New Zealand, said NSW particpants, who joined the fair with a trade pavilion for the first time, included Brookfarm, Australia’s Oyster Coast, Lee Pratt Beef, Hunter Heritage Gourmet Foods,Flavourtech, Sugar Free Solutions, Redbelly Citrus, Murray River Organics and Mandagery Creek Venison.

Ahead of the event, NSW Minister for Trade and Investment, Andrew Stoner, said the expo provided the perfect opportunity to show the world what exciting innovations NSW food growers and manufacturers are achieving.

“Asia’s large and growing consumer market makes the Hong Kong Food Expo a significant opportunity for NSW manufacturers to meet face-to-face with agents and buyers from all over the world,” Stoner said.

“The participating companies will also have the chance to make new business contacts, renew old ones and build commercial connections.”

The NSW government, through NSW Trade & Investment, provided support and assistance to the companies, including a custom-designed NSW pavilion.
