The NSW government has released a new report, Growing the NSW Dairy Industry, plus a $1 million project fund aimed at developing the state’s dairy industry.
The study, released last week by the NSW Minister for Primary Industries, Katrina Hodgkinson, identifies cheese and fresh products such as ice cream, and UHT milk as significant growth opportunities for the industry.
The NSW government also announced the formation of a $1 million project fund to deliver projects that will expand the sector.
The study highlights the need to establish market linkages with the right partners and develop the infrastructure required to service customer needs, according to industry body, Dairy Connect NSW. The organisation, which represent the farmers, vendors, processors and manufacturers, applauded the announcement as a step forward towards uniting and growing the industry.
Dairy Connect CEO Mike Logan said: “We are pleased that the government has identified the need to increase manufacturing capacity in NSW and access consumers beyond the domestic market.”
“Ms Hodgkinson’s announcement of a $1 million Dairy Industry Fund to invest in projects, will deliver tangible benefits to the NSW dairy industry. To ensure funds are invested according to industry priorities, Dairy Connect has been invited to contribute to Advisory Committee that will consist of representatives from NSW regional development programs and dairy advocacy groups.”
Logan said Dairy Connect is developing a transparent co-equity investment strategy that will see the NSW dairy industry partner with off-take investors to increase the State’s manufacturing and farm capacity.
