Australia’s new national peak body for the seafood industry has appointed Jane Lovell as its inaugural CEO.

Seafood Industry Australia (SIA) chose Lovell for her knowledge in the fisheries sector and background in food safety and quality assurance.

She also has strong links to seafood industry members, according to Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources Anne Ruston.

"Along with the SIA board, she will be a strong advocate for Australia’s $2.8 billion seafood industry, working on an array of issues that affect both our state and commonwealth fisheries," Ruston said.

“The government delivered on its 2013 election commitment, supporting the establishment of a peak seafood industry body.

“SIA gives this vital industry stronger representation, and has widespread industry support.

“I look forward to working with Ms Lovell and the SIA chair Veronica Papacosta to ensure Australia continues to have a world-class seafood industry.”
