A new dairy powder processing plant has opened by Chinese-owned Blue Lake Dairy Group (BLDG) in South Australia.

The Blue Lake Dairy Group will churn out 20,000 tonnes of infant and adult formula, initially using powdered milk. The next stage of the project will see the construction of a new $50 million milk drying facility.

Blue Lake Dairy Group was formed in 2015, and will begin exporting once it has been granted a licence to sell milk powder in China.

“The BLDG is looking forward to continuing their investment in South Australia and in their milk processing facility with the approval process for Stage 2 of the BLDG project, a new milk drying facility, expected to commence in coming months,” Blue Lake Dairy Group MD Wang Xin Xiang said.

The company sought assistance from the South Australian Government and Wattle Range Council, and Investment Attraction South Australia (IASA) also helped with the relevant planning and development processes, training subsidies, licensing and accreditation.

South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill said the project would provide a significant boost for the local economy.
