Sorting and resource optimisation company TOMRA has announced its new executive vice president and head of TOMRA Food, Michel Picandet. He will be based at TOMRA Food headquarters in Leuven, Belgium and responsible for TOMRA Food, Copmac and BBC Technologies.
Prior to joining TOMRA, Picandet has held management positions within Tetra Pak as global and managing director since 2013.
TOMRA CEO and president Stefan Ranstrand said Picandet was a, “highly strategic, global business executive with strong experience in the food and beverage industry, as well as capital equipment and related services.
“I am confident that under his leadership, the TOMRA Food team will continue to build on our three pillars of technical leadership, food trust and digital transformation, in order to achieve a more circular economy and safeguard the future of food.”
Picandet said he was looking forward to working with a company that was “spearheading the resource revolution as a sustainability leader.
“This is a company that continually strives to find innovative ways to reduce the world’s waste and optimise the use of its resources, and I am looking forward to the challenge of helping customers reduce food waste and improve yields in their operations, and build a reputation for their sustainability credentials.”
In Australia, TOMRA Food's automation technologies have been employed by a number of businesses, including Laragon Almond Processors, an independent almond huller and sheller, which has installed the TOMRA Numbus BS1+ sorter for almond kernels. Laragon also recently trialled the TOMRA 3C laser sorter for inshell almonds, which resulted in a high yield of pure product (99.5%).
TOMRA Food is a member of the Australian Packaging and Processing Machinery Association.
