Australian vegetable industry body AUSVEG has appointed James Whiteside as its new CEO.

Whiteside's background is in agriculture and agribusiness, and he previously served as chief operating officer for Incitec Pivot Fertilisers.

AUSVEG chair Geoff Moar said Whiteside's appointment was a significant step for the vegetable and potato industries.

“James has demonstrated an exceptional level of corporate management and executive leadership within agriculture and has an impressive list of agribusiness accomplishments,” Moar said.

Moar also paid tribute to Interim CEO Simon Bolles for leading AUSVEG through a significant period of transition following the retirement of former CEO Richard Mulcahy in May.

“Simon has acted with astute diligence and professionalism during his time in the role of Interim CEO, particularly in the midst of the tumultuous backpacker tax debate last month,” Moar said.
