MEQ has appointed Keith Byrne as general manager of its Australia and New Zealand operations. Byrne started his career at Coca-Cola Bottlers in Ireland and has held COO roles at OZGANICS and Byron Bay Cookie Company.

In the role, Byrne will drive the operational direction of the company’s ANZ activities while monitoring local agribusiness trends and cultivating new partnerships. Byrne previously held operational and compliance roles at LUMIBIRD, Cochlear, and Intel.

Byrne said improving quality and sustainability was at the top of the agenda for the ANZ region.

“The future of food is a critical issue globally, and as a major food producer I look forward to taking part in MEQ’s next phase of growth and bringing Australian innovation to a wider market,” said Byrne.

Byrne’s appointment follows a period of growth for the business, with MEQ partnering with Siemens to create sustainability gains across the red meat supply chain, and a new innovation lab and production facility opening in Victoria. It also recently closed a $6 million Series A raise to fuel more of its international expansion.

MEQ CEO Remo Carbone said Byrne’s experience leading Australian technology and food companies would prove ‘invaluable’.

“Consumer and industry expectations are fast evolving when it comes to red meat, and we’re seeing escalating demand for solutions that ensure higher quality, nutrition and sustainability,” said Carbone.
