McCain Foods embarked on a $57 million expansion of its potato plant in Ballarat, Victoria.

The project will create improved access to the potato plant, which employs more than 600 staff, and will expand processing areas and involve the installation of a new storage facility.

Workers at the plant, which manufacturers French fries, walked off the job last year over job security and entitlements, which delayed the revamp.

This latest expansion is expected to ensure the viability of the plant for another 15 years, and will result in the creation of 100 more jobs at the plant, and the upskilling of another 100 workers currently working at the plant.

McCain Foods (Aust) is owned by Canadian company McCain Foods.
