Lion and Coles are recalling a range of fresh and flavoured milk products sold in Western Australia that were made at Lion’s Bentley dairy facility.

The products affected are only distributed for sale in Western Australia. The brands affected included Pura, Masters, Farmers Union and Coles Western Australian with specific use-by dates.

Lion said the recall was precautionary, and it believed the incident was isolated and impacted only one production line on January 23 this year.

The dairy and beverage giant said that routine inhouse testing had showed a microbial count exceeded its quality standards.

“Importantly, Lion has undertaken additional testing on all retention samples for these batches, and to date testing has found no evidence of any contaminant known to cause illness,” the company said.

“We encourage anyone who has consumed these products with the specific use by date outlined and who feels unwell to seek medical advice as required.”

In a statement, Coles said: “The recall is due to detection of microbial contamination (coliforms). Food products contaminated with coliforms may cause illness if consumed.

“Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.”

No consumer complaints have been received so far and consumers are being offered refunds.
