Organic and Raw Trading Company has received a new safety certification for its kombucha production facility in Willunga, South Australia.

The company, which produces Mojo Kombucha, was independently audited to a world-recognised standard as part of the Global Food Safety Initiative.

"It is a positive affirmation that we’re doing the all the right things," CEO Anthony Crabb said.

“The new Safe Quality Food accreditation (SQI) allows us to continue to expand on our work with major retailers such as Woolworths, ALDI, Foodland, IGA and Costco, which in turn will be crucial for future category and company growth.

“We’re proud to be the only Australian kombucha producer certified to this level, and look forward to the opportunities of reaching even more people with our probiotic beverages."

Recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative, the SQI accreditation covers all manner of food safety risks throughout the supply chain.

“Undertaking the certification at this level provided us with the chance to streamline our risk and process management, promote confidence in food safety, quality and legality, as well as display our commitment to quality management and continual improvement,” Crabb said.

In news that is disappointing but not surprising given the recent reports on the unfolding Qenos saga, the new owner of Qenos has placed the company into voluntary administration. The closure of the Qenos Botany facility has also been confirmed.

An agreement struck between Cleanaway and Viva Energy will see the two companies undertake a prefeasibility assessment of a circular solution for soft plastics and other hard-to-recycle plastics.
