Inghams Enterprises has sacked five workers for cruelty and installed video monitoring in live-bird handling areas at its plant in Tahmoor in Sydney's southwest.

The workers were sacked after secretly filmed footage aired on the ABC last week showing the workers kicking and stomping on turkeys and slamming them against machinery.

After the broadcast, Inghams said it would conduct a full investigation of the incident to identify those involved.

It also said it would be installing video monitoring within live bird handling areas of its processing plants, as soon as practicable, “to ensure animal welfare standards were met at all times”.

On Friday Inghams' CEO Kevin McBain announced that five employees had been terminated and full investigation of the incident was ongoing. He said the company did not tolerate cruelty to livestock.

"A full investigation of the incident at Tahmoor processing plant is ongoing and five employees have been terminated today as a result thereof," he said in a statement.

"The installation of video monitoring within the live-bird handling areas at the Tahmoor processing plant will be completed over the course of this weekend."

“Inghams remains committed to fully cooperating with all relevant parties,” said McBain.

A police investigation has also commenced, and Inghams said it was committed to fully cooperating with the investigation.
