It’s been two years in the making, with formalisation scheduled for later this year, but already the just-announced Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA) is being called a “massive win-win” for both nations as well as Australia’s food export business.

The agreement will boost trade and investment between Australia and Indonesia and has been welcomed by Minister for Resources and Northern Australia Matt Canavan.

“This agreement will open new markets and opportunities for businesses from both countries. Australian producers will also have easier access to Indonesian goods, creating stronger connections between Australia and Indonesian business,” Minister Canavan says.

The improved market access will allowAustralian farmers to grow their $3.5 billion share of the Indonesian market.

“This agreement improves access for industries which trade most to Indonesia, including our livestock, beef and sheep meat, grains, sugar, dairy, citrus and horticulture,” says Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources David Littleproud.

AUSVEG, the industry representative for Australia’s vegetable and potato growers, also welcomes the deal that will help Australian vegetable growers looking to export into this potentially lucrative market.

Indonesia participated in the recent annual AUSVEG Reverse Trade Mission that allowed buyers from key export markets to visit Australian vegetable growers to see first-hand the high-quality produce from the nation’s farms and producers.
