This is also our annual industry directory issue, a classified listing of all the ingredients, equipment and supplies, brands and companies you need to find in the food and beverage space. It starts on page 39

Editor’s Pick

Packaging Queen

Our rising star this issue is Joanne Howarth, the founder of Planet Protector Packaging. Standing in a warehouse full of polystyrene was a seminal moment for Howarth, steering her to what is now award-winning, internationally recognised environmentally sustainable packaging. It’s inspiring and on page 10.

We also have a full round-up of this year’s winners of the Australasian Packaging Innovation & Design (PIDA) awards from page 6.

A strategic harvest

Four years ago, industry veteran Matthew Jinks bought Random Harvest Gourmet while it was in administration. Last year its products were accepted by Harrod’s and now stock it shelves. We talk to Jinks about manufacturing and distributing a premium brand. Read from page 16.

Processing & Packaging Tech

As the big ticket expos were postponed, we have brought you a 14-page feature packed with the latest equipment and packaging from some of the world’s leading providers, including: VEGA, HP, NATEC, Foodmach, Heat & Control, BOC, Tetra Pak, AMSL, GS1, Bürkert, Jet Technologies, Key Technologies and more. Explore them all from page 22

A fresh challenge

The cold chain is one area of focus in building the roadmap to halve Australia’s food waste by 2030. We continue our discussion with Fight Food Waste CRC’s Mark Barthel and talk to the Australian Food Cold Chain Council’s Dr Greg Picker about the challenges and initiatives underway. It’s on page 12.
